Loving the heat and sun...
...but starting to think about snow! As we approach mid-August, the Fernie Nordic Society is looking out a few months and starting to get things ready for another great season. We're looking at continuing to grow our kids Skill Development Program, offering more events and socials, and of course hosting our Community Nordic Ski Race again! The Fernie Nordic Society depends on dedicated volunteers to make all this happen, and we'd love to get YOU involved. Check out the info below to find out how you can be part of a growing organization, promoting one of the best winter fitness activities around!
Looking for COACHES!
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY - Our kids Skill Development program runs for about 10 weeks each year, starting after the New Year. Kids aged 3-12 (and hopefully older this year!) learn the basics about balance and technique on Nordic skis. They are introduced to classic and skate style skiing. If you are interested in helping with the kids program this year, please email Clark Weber at bluerockeng@telus.net . You do NOT have to have previous coaching experience - the Fernie Nordic Society will pay for and provide the appropriate training and certification. All that is required is an enjoyment of nordic skiing, and an interest in inspiring young kids to get active and enjoy Fernie winter!
Event and Social Volunteers
You make the events a success! After hosting our first Community Race, and our 2nd Island Lake Lodge End of Year event, it is clear that the nordic ski community LOVES getting out and hitting the trails with others (and perhaps with a little competition added in!). We hope to provide these exciting events again this year, and to expand our weekly group ski sessions. In order to make this happen, we're looking for a team of volunteers. Put your name in to be called on to help organize and run events this winter. Email info@fernienordic.com if you are interested.
