Again this year: A group of 25 nordic clubs in British Columbia have partnered with CrosscountryBC to offer exciting passes to ski on their trails this winter. For a low flat cost, choose to ski once at 7 clubs, twice at 7 clubs, or twice at any of the 25 clubs. This pass is even transferable!
Purchase a pass for yourself or a friend in one of three ways:
(1) online with a credit card using the Donation button on this page (2) online through the Zone4 website (3) or on weekends at the warming hut of the Elk Valley Nordic Centre
Our thanks to all those who have renewed or purchased their Fernie Nordic Society membership. Our team will be at the Fernie Senior Drop-In Centre every Wednesday between 11:30 am and 1 pm during the month of November to hand out stickers or membership cards, and to answer any of your questions about the club activities or about joining the FNS. You can take advantage of the lunch offerings at the Centre under $10 at the same time! Please pass the word on to friends or family members and I hope to see you there starting on Wednesday Nov 6. The Drop-in centre is located across from city hall on 3rd Avenue.
Weather permitting. Our first ski event … and social. For adults only. On the night of the full moon, meet at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre 19:00 – 22:00. Bring a snack to share & your headlamp then ski under the full moon and enjoy the fire and food with friends! Free for members, day pass required for non-members. Please check our calendar for other events.
UPDATE: Great fall weather on a cool Saturday morning. Plenty of mud also! Many families came to enjoy the wooded surroundings of the Nordic Centre while the young ones looked for pumpkins. About 500 hot dogs were served!
Join the Fernie Nordic Society for Fernie’s 5th Great Pumpkin Hunt, our annual autumn fundraiser event! Children 9 years and under (you don’t need to be a Fernie Nordic Member) are invited to scour the forests surrounding the Warming Hut at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre for their own pumpkin. When the search is finished, each pumpkin hunter can enjoy hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows by the bonfires. It promises to be a great morning of autumn fun!
New this year: Tickets to the event will be sold ahead of time. Come by Heaven Boutique on 2nd Avenue in Fernie to get tickets for your prefered time slot. For more details, check our Facebook page.
This is an outdoor event, so please dress your children appropriately and bring camping chairs or blankets if desired. We’re tough Fernie folks so a little rain (or snow!) won’t deter us – but if the weather turns really gnarly, we may postpone it – check our Facebook page the day of for an update. In the past many families chose to bring wienies to roast on the bonfires and enjoyed a walk on the trails around the Warming Hut after the Hunt. Please plan to do this again! The Fernie Nordic Society thanks Our Sponsors for supporting this great annual event!
Our 5th Annual Great Pumpkin Hunt is planned for Saturday October 19, 2019 starting at 11:00 am at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre near the Mt. Fernie Provincial Park. The event should end by 3:00 pm.
UPDATE: The evening at the Arts Station was well attended. Supporters of the Fernie Nordic Racers filled the room to hear Redgirl perform a set of wonderful songs.
A musical fundraiser for the Fernie Nordic Racers Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 7 PM at the Arts Station Tickets $25 available at Eventbrite.ca
Come for the tunes and stay for the great cause! Redgirl presents a night of acoustic folk, bluegrass and original music in order to raise funds and awareness for the small yet fierce Fernie Nordic Racers, winners of the 2019 Kootenay Aggregate Teck Cup! All funds raised will go towards race team gear for athletes. Cash Bar and Nibblies by donation.
It’s already September and the school programs are getting started. The registration for the Fernie Nordic Society membership is now open. Whether you just want to renew your membership or purchase one for the first time, this is a good opportunity. Take advantage of our early-bird fees before December 1st and you will save about $10 per person. Head to the webpage on the Zone4.ca website and search for Fernie. Everything may be done quickly online all at once: membership, ski lessons and rentals for children, enrollment in the race team and payment by credit card. We will announce the details about adult ski lessons when this program is finalized. Visit our website at www.fernienordic.com for more details.
Come to the Fernie Community Centre on Monday September 9 between 5 and 8:30 pm and our volunteers will be happy to answer your questions about the club and the many activities planned for this winter season. Our volunteers have been busy to improve the drainage along the trails of the Nordic Centre and to enlarge the staging area around the warming hut. All this so we can get an early start on our skis. The Society is currently looking for volunteer coaches (training provided), helpers with events, grooming and more, so get in touch with us to make your mark!
