The Fernie Flying Viking Challenge on March 15

Important Change: The event has been rescheduled to Sunday March 15 at 10:30 am. Registration now closes at 3 pm on Saturday, March 14. The event returns to Fernie for the third time. It takes place on Sunday morning March 15, 2020 at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre. The start time is set for 10:30 am. Looking for a challenge? This is the one, a long one but very casual. Excellent prizes, ride(s) on the Deer chair, a lot of yummy food and drinks. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and then as door prizes! You have the option to do either the full 50 km yourself (2 loops to the ski hill trails and back) or you can choose to do a single loop of 25 km. More details on our event page HERE

Outdoor play at Griz Days

All Fernie welcomes the Griz from March 6 to 8. Among the local activities, the SNOW-TO-ICE(cream) challenge is back again this year. Take a selfie at four different locations on the trails around Fernie inside of 72 hours from Friday to Sunday 7 pm. More details HERE.
A special Griz Days Full Moon Ski & Social event closes the weekend. Meet at 7 pm at the Nordic Centre.

This Saturday, an event for skiers of all ages

The club invites all skiers, young, adult, families, to our annual Fernie Community Fun race event on Saturday Feb 22 at the Nordic Centre. It is open to club members and non-members alike. The fun starts at 10:30 with the Hot Chocolate Run followed by relay and solo races plus short sprints to finish. It is totally FREE to participate. Read the details on our page (click to open).

Family Ski this Sunday afternoon

The second Family Friendly Ski event of the season is coming up this Sunday Feb. 16 at 4 pm at the Nordic Centre. Children and adults are welcome to enjoy the trails. The kids loop in the woods will be bright with the new string of lights. Stop by the firepit during the event. Free for members, other guests need a day pass.

Full Moon Ski and Social this Saturday

Great evening this Saturday February 8th coming up! On the night of the full moon, meet at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre 19:00 – 22:00. Bring a snack to share & your headlamp then ski under the full moon and enjoy the fire and food with friends! Free for members, day pass required for non-members.

A good weekend on the trails!

Last Saturday was another Skill Development Program lesson for 46 young skiers at the Nordic Centre.

The new Family Friendly Ski event followed on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. We inaugurated the new and very long string of lights along the kids loop by the staging area. A fun place to ski after dark! About twenty adult skiers participated in the event as well as a few children either on dad’s back or in a chariot. The trails were well groomed and the skiing was great!

The January 25-26 weekend was also the time for our Fernie Nordic Racers to shine at the Teck Kootenay Cup in Nipika.

7.5k classic with Kai, Finn & Wes at the start

Twenty racers from Fernie completed the classic races on Saturday and 17 did the skate races on Sunday. In total the racers received 9 podium positions. Three young racers did amazingly well in their first cross country ski race ever. The trails were well groomed and track set although hard and very icy. Good participation by our young racing team and several adults from Fernie.
